About Doric Lodge No. 18
The Grand Lodge of British Columbia granted dispensation to Doric Lodge No. 18 on 21st July, 1892 after an application was received from Right Worshipful Brother Ralph Craig of the Nanaimo Steam Carriage Works and 30 members.
The first communication of Doric Lodge held under dispensation from the Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of British Columbia, in the Masonic Hall, Nanaimo, BC on Tuesday, 26th July 1892. At this meeting it was moved, seconded, and carried that all Regular Meetings be held on the third Tuesday of each month commencing at 7:30 P.M.
Doric’s Charter was granted 23rd June 1893 at the Grand Lodge Annual Meeting, and was then constituted on 17th July, 1893 by Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Sibree Clarke.
Doric & Ashlar Lodge met in the same building for many years in the Hirst Block which is located at 99 Commercial Street. In 1923, Doric Lodge had temporary quarters in the Brumpton Block located at 489 Wallace Street and then moved to the new lodge building on the corner of Commercial and Skinner Streets on 30th October 1923.
In 1992, Doric Lodge moved to its current location at 620 Morpeth Avenue, Nanaimo.
